To Date – Collectively we’ve removed over 2,000 pounds of trash from our shorelines and conducted multiple water tests thanks to organizations like the Alliance for the Great Lakes and Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful.
November 14, 2012 – Great Lakes surfers featured in Surfer Magazine during the during the Hurricane Sandy sessions!
October 19, 2012 – A Night with Michael Kew Raptoberfest event. Film screening of his new surf film where we raised awareness about Ban the Bag campaign, attracted prospective officers, and recruited new members.
October 2012 – Wisconsin Great Lakes Chapter attends the East Coast Chapter Summit in Long Beach, New York, their first ever. At this event we listed to CEO Jim’s 6-year strategic review, Stiv Wilson and the 5 Gyres staff, Bill Hickman and Rise Above Plastics, and learned about beach access, coastal preservation, and about the new website interface.
September 2012 – Internation Surfing Day Event, with 1,050 confirmed guests. View the digital short here. We pushed chapter membership, fundraising, and had environmental awareness education sessions.
August 2012 – Urban Island Beach Party with SUP demos from Laacke & Joys, with 2,000 confirmed guests. Here we recruited new members, taught environmental education, and helped people get in the water and enjoy standup paddle boarding and kayaking.
July 22, 2012 – Wisconsin Great Lakes Chapter attends the Tristan Prettyman concert in Milwaukee, a former Roxy surfer. Promoted membership and talked with Tristan Prettyman on the Surfrider movement, acquiring her support and more giveaways.
July 13, 2012 – Lake Michigan surfing is featured on the Discovery Channel’s website. Read the article about the “Malibu of the West.”
July 10, 2012 – Wisconsin Great Lakes Chapter attends the Bama Green Dave Matthew’s Band tour at Alpine Valley in partnership with Reverb. At the concert we raised awareness about our campaigns and recruited new members.
April 21, 2012 – Earth Day and Bradford Beach Cleanup with Community Gathering, with 650 confirmed guests. Promoted membership and had educational pieces on coastal preservation.
October 1, 2011 – Grant Park Beach Cleanup for Raptoberfest, with 600 confirmed guests. Promoted membership and had educational pieces on coastal preservation.
September 22, 2011 – Wild and Scenic Film Festival at Bayshore Town Center. Here we recruited attracted prospective officers, recruited new members, and educated visitors on our programs.
June 19, 2011 – International Surfing Day, Wisconsin Great Lakes event, with 350 confirmed guests.
